Thanks Rib33024. You've been a great help. I wish I could get this done asap to let you know what happens....but the cart is at a second property and I won't be able to get back out to do all this until late next week. I'll update then. Would sears carry this tool?

If your Sears is anything like mine, it will have to be ordered from Andromeda for delivery to your unborn great, great, great, great grand-children. Your best bet for an in stock unit is Harbor Freight if there is one within driving distance.

If you have a local NAPA, they might have one in stock.

Sweet didn't even think about harbor freight. I'm currently about oh...plus or minus 3 tenths of a mile from one!

TerryH has a great illustrated thread where he rebuilt his. I completed mine last weekend, though I just replaced the eight bearings five O-rings and the axle oil seals. Really wasn't too hard.

Just wanted to update everyone who helped me out. I still have not completed this project.....Upon replacing the axle bearing and seals I discovered that when the bearing went on the driver side they sat between the race and the axle seal and just grinded on the shaft for a while until they eventually tore up the shaft where it sits in the axle seal. So even with the new seal the shaft does seal. You can see light between the axle seal and the shaft. And I figure with the rough surface on the axle it would eventually eat the new seal even if it did seal. I thought about taking it to a machine shop and having them weld a build up and grind it back down smooth, but figured that was not a good route to go. I pulled a shaft out of an older ezgo that we had sitting back in a junk pile (model unknown) hoping that it would match up. The diameter matched as well as the splines but the overall length is approx 1 1/2" longer. I dont know if there is a way to make it work. Anybody know where I can find a cheap 2000 TXT driver side shaft? Anybody have a part carts sitting around?

You can get it from EZGO for $91.00. The part number posted in the earlier post if for the 88-94 model. The one that you need is a 20377G11.

Update: finished putting in the seals and bearings on both side. Replaced driver side shaft. Put it all back together and it worked. I'm still confused as to how a busted axle bearing would completely disable the cart......but i guess it has to do with how the differential work. Anyway, thanks everyone for your help!

A disintegrated outer axle bearing will allow the axle to move outward of the spider assembly enough to come out of the drive gear. Glad you're up and running.
