Default 1988 ezgo studder

recently rebuilt my cart motor (along with previously having cleaned the carb and all other general maintenance) but have noticed that there seems to be a bit of a dead spot in the accelerator pedal while driving the cart at times but not always. sometimes i can push the pedal down from mid throttle and slowly press into it to accelerate and the motor seems to just die and all of a sudden pickup and keep running again... also seems like i ALWAYS need to quick pump the choke quick while trying to start the cart to get it to run. any idea on what could cause this?
