Example: take whatever you are thinking of putting in your engine, pour it into a cup about half way, take a popsicle stick and see if you can easily splash or fling any of it outside the cup. If not, don't use it. This is a great test because you get a free popsicle before doing anything.
what do you think of using a 5-30 synth blend?

I use full synthetics in all my 4 cycle engines. Walmart synthetic except diesel and then I use a synthetic for diesel engines.

Your FE290 has an oil pump, and if you haven't run it a lot, you should be okay!

I use Mobil 1 10-40 High Mileage in all my outdoor power equipment. Honda 13 HP, Honda V-twin 20 hp, Kawasaki 6 hp B&S 10 hp and a 2020 Yamaha Drive2 golf cart. Makes it easy at oil change time. 10w on start up and it runs like a 35 w at temp. Never had an issue with any one of the motors. It has 1000 ppm of ZDDP (zinc and phosphorus) These are all flat tappet motors and can benifit from a bit of ZDDP. I never use additives in anything. I ran this same oil in a Yamaha F115 four stroke outboard that ran at 5000 RPM plus 90% of the time. Never a worry there either
