G2 Yamaha Help
Have G2 that backfires through carb. Happens from a idle to a fast push on accel pedal full throttle. Push pedal slow, it's ok. Replaced carb and coil, checked fuel pump, ok. New air filter and prefilter. Air box sealed tight. Adjusted the valves. New sparkplug. It like it's starving for fuel. Using the choke helps and also squeezing the air tube between air box and carb helps. I can pull the choke cable all the way while the engine is running at idle and it don't flood out. Anyone have any ideas. It's starting to get the best of me.Thanks

Re: G2 Yamaha Help
I'll bet the plastic spacer between the carb and engine is cracked. Be careful
not to over tighten, they will crack. |

Re: G2 Yamaha Help
Removed carb, checked intake, ok. I did replace the gasket, it was dry and hard. Put old carb back on, tried another new coil and igniter, NO change.

Re: G2 Yamaha Help
Sounds like an air leak. Check the air box to make sure it is completely sealed.

Re: G2 Yamaha Help
Checked that spriddle. Tried a new fuel pump, that didn't help. Starting to think it may be internal. Like the intake valve not closing all the way or a timing issue. Runs like it to far advanced. ???

Re: G2 Yamaha Help
May be a valve issue.

Re: G2 Yamaha Help
I agree, it could be. And it sounds like you've done what I would've done which is start with all the simple things first and eliminate them. If you tear into it, let us know what you find. Usually this is a simple air/fuel mixture problem somewhere: airbox, spacer, fuel pump, fuel line, float, etc... Have you replaced the fuel lines? If so, did you go back with the exact same size: 1/4 and 5/16? Just another thought. Yamaha's are picky.
