Voltage Regulators for DS carts run less then $30.00,
V/R's with a 3 pin connector for Precedents are a little higher!

Thumbs up Re: testing a voltage regulator

Thank you guys so much!!! So I finally got back home to start troubleshooting again and my trouble shooting got cut real short. As soon as i tried to locate the yellow start/gen wire, i found it to be separated at the wire clip. . i know i know, should have seen it a long time ago,but just a few days ago without u guys help, i didnt even know what the yellow wire was for. Thanks to u guys and the research button on here, i was able to get it going.I still have not hooked the volt meter to it, i pretty much think thats the issue.

I was reading this thread and replaced my volt regulator, but am still not getting more than 12.5 or so doing the test that was listed above. My cart works fine for about a week or so then the battery will be completely dead and obviously no longer work. I re-charge the battery and the same thing. I have replace the battery and the volt regulator. Any ideas??

Aiken huh? You're right down the road. You can always bring it to me if you need help. I don't mind. I suspect either a bad wire or a generator problem. Disconnect the small yellow wire from the "DF" post of the starter/generator. Get a jumper wire with alligator clips on both ends. Clip one end to the DF terminal of the starter/generator and the other end to the frame ground of the vehicle. Crank the engine up and monitor the voltage at the battery. We're checking raw output from the starter/generator this way. You should see 18 to 20 volts at wide open throttle. If you don't see the voltage rise, replace the starter/generator. If you do see the voltage rise, inspect the yellow wire from the starter/generator all the way to the voltage regulator. If it's in tact, the regulator you just installed must be a bad one. Let me know what you find.

That's not enough voltage to charge the battery, especially when you add the voltage regulator back into the loop. The generator has failed.
