Default Adding a second Lithium Battery

2016 EZGO TXT, 48V, LiTime 60A-H battery

I upgraded the battery pack to a single 48V LiTime 60 A-H battery about 9 months ago. I have been considering adding a second LiTime 60 A-H battery to extend the range. My only concern is that LiTime suggests that only batteries
manufactured within 30 days of each other should be paralleled. I’m not sure how big of a deal it is. I thinking that the same manufacturer, same voltage and same capacity should be enough. I respect the collective knowledge of this group. Any have an opinion on how detrimental it might be to pair one new and one year old Li Battery?

Ideally you want matched cells, ones with many cycles on them may charge and discharge at different rates, their internal resistance may be different. Your 8mnth old ones probably aren't that far off from new cells, and each battery has its own BMS to protect its cells, so it would probably be just fine.

Thank you. That in line with what I was thinking. Pairing up the one older and one new battery isn’t optimal but it’s not dangerous

I would suggest charging the old and new one to 100% before you join them together. That way one isnt try to charge the other.

I am curious as to how much range you are getting from the LiTime battery as compared to your old pack?

I can't answer your question on adding another battery, but I will say that I have found LiTime to be very cautious about their recommendations for using their batteries. I was going to buy a couple of their 12 volt 50 amp batteries to use with my 24 volt trolling motor, but they insisted that it wouldn't work. The TM pulls only 42 amps, so I thought they should work fine, but I decided to take them at their word. I bought a competitor's batteries with the same specs and they work great.

Maybe the issue of putting them in series if you were to use a 24v charger spooked them.

Generally speaking I have been very happy with LiTime Battery. My EZGO 2016 TXT Fleet Car has an entirely stock electronic drive system . I’m estimating minimum 20 -25 miles on the 60 A-H battery. I have a Victron 700 charge status meter. I don’t normally run the battery down but I can attest to the the capacity of the LiTime Battery. It is advertised as 3100+ w-h capacity at 48V. After a recent hurricane I ran our refrigerator w/ an icemaker for 24 hrs. Battery capacity at hour 24 was 23%. Average use was 60 watts per hr. 60X24=1440w-hr Assuming 50% efficiency to covert 48V d-c to 12V d-c then invert back the 120V a-c the 1440 w-h required a capacity of 1440X2=2880w-h. 77% of the advertised 3100w-h is 2380w-h. So the capacity numbers seem to work out.

In accordance with previous experience, the two batteries were connected in parallel after each was fully charged and then left to stand for 12 hours before starting to use them

Thanks for the update, Alan. If you are getting 20-25 miles then that battery will be fine for me.

That could have been the case, but the batteries I bought work very well.
