Default Cushman 48 volt keeps stripping hubs

Whenever someone borrows my flatbed cart, it always comes back with stripped hubs. Have you guys ever got fed up with the hub replacement and just tack welded the hubs to the axles? I'm thinking that over the years the stripped out hubs have flat topped my axle splines and it's going to strip out a new hub in no time. Thoughts?

You are probably not tightening the hub nuts enough. Not knowing what model cart you have I am going to suggest a torque setting of between 90 to 140 ft lb, similar to EZGO spec's. Once you are over 90 ft lb, keep going tighter until the nut slots line up with the pin holes. Never slacken off to line up for the pin. I always put a small smear of copper ease on the splines too. I doubt very much that the axle splines are damaged as they are much harder than the hubs. Hope this helps.

Well my axles are definitely not pointy splines anymore. Have a flat top to them.

And tightening the castlelated nut does not make the hub tighter in the spline area. Splines don't work that way.

Oh well, my axles are toast anyway, nothing to lose by welding them to the hub.

Splined hub should have a slight taper so proper torque does matter.

The splines do not have points, they are flat topped from new. But you obviously know better 🙄 go ahead and weld them. Just remember, heat kills the hardening process from manufacture. We tried to help here. Just hope you don't need to service brakes in the future. There is a torque setting for a reason.

A quick search for stripped hubs will tell all.

My bets are that it was usually the drivers side that stripped the hubs.

driver's side, then the passenger side and now the driver's side again.

The advice Cartmaster gave you is true,no matter what you think. if you'll torque it down to130 to 140 I doubt seriously if it'll strip again. But it seems like you know more than we do so like he said go ahead and weld it and stop asking people for help if you don't want to use it. and if your cart is stripping out hubs as many times as you said, the cart is being misused it's not the hubs
