1993 yamaha G9 cart gas powered
my issue is that the battery does not stay charged and the clutch doesnt ingage, could someone help?

Seems you have two seperate issues. Starting with the battery, and you tested it?

Start by cleaning (really well) all your battery connections all the way to the starter.
Then try lubing the clutch. Just three or four pumps in the drive clutch. There should be a fitting on the edge of the outer sheave part. If its the driven (rear) clutch that won't engage, grease it too: two pumps. |

yes, i tested the battery. have had 2 new in there. do they have a voltage regulator or something. thanks for the clutch info

Batteries do not have an internal voltage regulator. Sounds like your charging system may not be working properly. Spriddle is right, make sure all your connections are very clean and snug including at the starter/generator, and that your starter/generator belt is not slipping. When you say the clutch doesnt engage, does your cart not move at all or does it drive really slow? Sometimes an engine may not start and the cart is propelled by the starter, which can make some people think the engine is running when it actually is not. If that were the case, it would discharge the battery quickly.

The voltage reg. is on the driver side of your cart. if you put your cart in reverse you should hear the buzzing noise, follow it and it will take you to your regulator its right next to the buzzer. just lift your seat and be on the drivers side and just look up under the rear fender area.

do a simple battery drain test, disconnect one of the battery cables, then put a volt meter between the cable end and the battery terminal, if it shows voltage then you have a parasitic battery drain. start unplugging things until the voltage reads 0 , diagnose whatever made the drain stop
