1991 DS Trans/Diff Oil change: where are the fill and drain plugs?
In the past 5 months of owning my Club Car and with consistant heavy use, the transmission/differential is starting to get a bit noisy, and im thinking i should probably change the oil. First off, im not sure where the drain plug and fill plug is. I look under the diff, but for whatever reason, i dont see it... However, next to the governor arm on the top of the trans, there is a nipple with a silver cap covering the opening. Is this the fill port? And im assuming it takes 75-90W standard diff/manual trans oil right?

That silver cap on top is not the fill plug.
Just did mine last weekend. There are two separate chambers for oil change on the pre-1997 tranny/diff. They're just bolts/plugs in the side of the cases. The transmission (top section) drain plug is at the lowest point of the tranny case on the passenger side. The differential (lower section) drain plug is at the lowest point of the diff case on the driver's side. The fill plugs for them are about 2" up from where the drain plugs are. I think they all take a 9/16" wrench. I did mine when I had the body off, so the fill plugs were pretty easy to access. If you're doing yours with the body on, you may need a hand pump attachment to pump the oil up into the fill plug(s). Once the oil starts to weep out of the fill plug, it's full. I used 80W90 gear oil for both chambers. |

Re: 1991 DS Trans/Diff Oil change: where are the fill and drain plugs?
This is one project I have not got to yet on my cart. My tranny and differential are completly covered in an oil greasy film about a 1/4" thick. I plan on getting the de-greaser and pressure washer after it but why is it all there in the first place?
Hey Springbok, Thanks again for the starter/generator and I should be getting it today... |

No problem man. I've been tracking it online, USPS never seems to nail the expected delivery date.
