http://www.plumquick.com/

The Plumquick motors (bandit, etc.) are a total rebuild of your motor, resulting in a newly fully rebuilt motor, that is custom wound for more speed. The custom winding is what does it.

says only 20% increase over stock for 36v. 20% increase of 12mph puts it at 14.5 mph. That doesnt seem to be very cost effective?

It doesn't seem so on the surface, but with 36 volts things are more expensive. You put the larger tires on to gain speed, but torque suffers and burns up your stock controller. You upgrade the controller, which requires HD cables, solenoids, and FNR switching. Then you might as well convert to 48 volts. That all = big $$$. Of course, this is with a 36 volt series cart, which are the older carts nowadays. The newer carts are most always 48 volts and a different drive system (some form of separately excited drive with regen braking) which are easier (cheaper) to get speed upgrades from. As the old hot rodder's saying goes, "speed equals money, how fast do you want to spend?"

Just curious. How much to does a complete overhaul cost?: Controller, HD cables, solenoids and FNR switching? And why 48 volt? 48 volt doesnt effect speed right? just longer lasting battery in general?

That's a link to Scottyb's (forum member/site sponsor and performance parts guru - THE guy when it comes to electric cart upgrades) site. It should have all the prices and a TON of good info on converting, batteries, and amperage for controllers, etc. to read through. 48 volts will get you more speed, remember voltage = speed. In stock form 36 and 48 volt carts are both the same, but when you start upgrading, 48 volts (or 42 in the case of some of the EZGO carts, PDS I believe) is the way to go.
