Default Ez go marathon burning resistor

New to the forum and carts so bear with me. Have a lifted pre 94 marathon. Replaced absolutely everything except the motor and rear end. Previous owner neglected the cart and it needed repairs as the accelerator board burned up after a few days use. Everything was rusty and bad shape. Replaced everything and cart runs great but after about 30 minutes of use noticed an abnormal amount of burning smell and heat from the resistor coils. Took off seat and the back stud, which is wired to motor is cooked. The wires and coils are brand new and everything is wired correctly. My question is, would this be because of the old motor trying to turn the new big tires? Does the motor need to be upgraded to something more efficient? Or is it a coil upgrade/motor upgrade combo?

Any help is great appreciated! To be clear the cart still runs but that one post and wire to motor is cooking

If it is staying hot/ getting hotter after parking it, the solenoid is staying closed for some reason. In general, resistor carts are unsuitable for lifted/big tire applications. That resistor control system is designed for golf style use, no more. It will continue to eat parts until it's upgraded to a more robust setup.

Hey thanks for the quick reply! No it cools off after use and I know they tend to burn or get hot especially under slow speeds but it literally has burned up that post after less than an hour. So my next question is....where to start on upgrading? What parts can be used? The F/R is HD but beyond that nothing is heavy duty. I need torque not speed. Lots of hills low speeds

Hills and low speeds combined are the worst enemy of all resistor carts. The very worst scenerio possible for a resistor cart with bigger tires (wait, you could be towing a trailer too ). Gonna have to convert to a more modern solid state controller. Like the kit offered by ScottyB (www.cartsunlimited.net). Be sure to get a heavy duty solenoid and upgraded cable set to go with it.
