Batteries not taking much water anymore
Eight 6V batteries. Is this a sign they're on their way out? This cart I've only had about 6 months and the batteries are a few years old. It has an automatic watering system which my other cart had too, so I'm familiar with what it should be using. These batteries are only taking a cup or so every 3 weeks instead of a quart or more between them. I can't say the battery life has been diminished since I bought it, but I don't think it was ever very good or as long as it should be. It charges up to 52volts but will drop to the high 49's overnight if not used after charging.

Re: Batteries not taking much water anymore
Check your batteries' cells individually....some may be very low.
Watering systems are known to fail...starving cells of water. This can happen without the owner even being aware of the failure to water certain cells. That your batteries are using less water is why you should check each cell individually... Hopes this helps Happy cartin' |

Re: Batteries not taking much water anymore
My batteries take 1/2 to 1 quart very 2 to 3 months. And this is with daily 5 to 15 mile runs with a stress testing 20 mile run at least once a week. (I'm RETIRED with absolutely nothing better to do! )
And these mileages are 8 year old Crown batteries. I fill them to 1/4 below the high level indicator then refill them when the level is 1/4" above the plates. As CartsRFun and Bama Brad stated, be careful with auto watering systems. You have no way of determining the level in each cell with them. If the cells are filling correctly, your water usage is just fine. |

Sorry for the late response, little "heart issue" came up. The cells were full, the watering system seems to work correctly. For the last couple of months I've only been able to put a cup or so of distilled water in all 8 batteries, which isn't normal from my past experience. So, I charged it all up again, let it sit for a day and watered them again and they took about 2 quarts, maybe a little less, which I was happy with. I have no idea why they weren't taking water for the last couple of months though. I drive it several miles a day and use it daily, so that's why I was worried. It seemed to not be holding charge very well/long either, but we'll see if that's all normal now too. I charge it every 3 or 4 days over night. When I go out the next morning it's in the high 52's voltage wise. |
