No you do not....got to youtube, put in "testing batteries on a golf cart". You will see many examples. Get this first:

Found some great videos on YT and I have ordered a Voltmeter. I now have to find a replacement battery before I head back down to the beach!

Some videos show the golf cart running and testing at the same time. I don't think I can do that. LOL

Those are videos of testing batteries under load...good way to find out if one is failing.
