XCT48400 Controller settings for smooth acceleration?

As a side note the highest motor temp (is 141).

If that is centigrade it is too hot.

141ºF is a little hot too. I had to run the dog poop out of my setup to get it to heat the case that high and I could smell the motor was hot from the drivers seat with the Ezgo motor cover off. So I would keep an eye on the temp. Remember the motor will continue to heat after you stop and takes hours to cool. Remember the hotter the motor gets the easier it is to get it hotter yet.

As for the throttle curves - the more points the smoother the curve transition because the line is actually straight between any 2 points. Add lots of points
Note you can also lay down the torque curve if too much power in the bottom of the curve. Connect the laptop and experiment.

Maybe in theory that is correct, but I definitely notice a decrease in speed with a full load on the cart. Maybe something is wrong in my setup curves (torque).

What I don't understand is why decreasing the max rpm will give me smoother acceleration? Decreasing the max rpm is just holding the controller to limit the voltage going to the motor at full throttle thereby limiting the top speed and max rpm that the motor can generate? How does that affect the jerkiness during acceleration and holding a mid range speed? What am I missing?

The throttle curve is working on the max RPM - at least mine acts like that. So half throttle goes to half max RPM. So if you increase max RPM, you change the throttle response. Since I don't have the code for these controllers, I am going on my observations not on direct knowledge of how it is programmed.

Hey Scottyb, I read somewhere in this forum that Alltrax recommended 149 F as warning temp and 167 F as a danger temp. That is why I figured that if I am only going up to 141 F as my highest temp that I am A Ok. Is this wrong and 141 F is really BAD? My temps are in Fahrenheit not Celsius.

I'm going to contact Alltrax ... I will report back what they tell me.

Anyway I never run my cart as hard as I did for that test and I probably never will...so now I am doing some research on various temp sensors

The external temperature of these motors is going to read quite a bit lower than the internal temperature (which is what matters) I have a thermal probe mounted on the outside of my D&D motor near the Armature terminals. That is the hottest place on the outside that I could easily mount a probe. My motor typically runs about 25 to 30 degrees above the ambient temperature which is cool IMO. My stock motor cooked under the same conditions.

Tech tells me you are on to something very correct about the proportional application of the throttle range. They are running the question by engineering and hopefully program writers for more input which I will report back.

Alltrax tech support is the best in the industry. With a 2 year warranty, why would you shop anywhere else?
