Default Changing Engine Setting

Hi, I recently bought a Yamaha Turf Liner (G17a) and I noticed that the way the engine was configured works like a car or a motorcycle where the engine keeps on running even when not stepping on the accelerator.

So I called a local golf cart mechanic and change the configuration back to its normal golf cart setting where if you don't step on the accelerator, the engine will turn off then will turn on again once you step on the pedal.

Question is, which part of the engine should I configure if I want to change the engine setting again? I didnt see where my mechanic did it.

Thanks

I think what happened is someone rewired how the starter/gen is activated. Usually it's wired through the accelerator pedal so that when you lift your foot off the pedal activates a switch that grounds out the starter/gen and ignition in some fashion. I'm not familiar with that cart so I can't help you figure out which wire is what. If you're going to tackle this job you'll want a correct factory wiring diagram for this cart and an electrical tester. I wouldn't start ripping wires out until you know what's what. On some carts, one wire can make the cart do what you describe, so it might be that easy.

Questions:

1.) Does the cart start with a key?

2.) Or do you have to press the pedal to start the engine up?

3.) Then does the cart stay running until you turn the key to the off position?

On the yamahas I have worked on there is a STOP/Start switch that can be accessed by lifting out a panel in the floor board right behind the pedals themselves. My G14 and the G16 and G29 I worked on were all set up in this manner. Mine is jumped out so I have key start the others wanted to retain the pedal start so the wires were left connected.

Hi.

In both settings, you have to turn the key and step on the pedal to start. The only difference is that in golf cart setting, the engine will turn off once you release the pedal which is kinda annoying if you are driving outside the golf course especially if there is a hump/speed bump or traffic.

In a car setting, the engine will shut down once you off the ignition.

I remember them working on something in the floor board to access the pedal. I'll take a photo.

Sounds like they disabled the engine cut off switch wire. Should be a simple fix. Should be a wire disconnected under the accelerator pedal.

From what I understand, the Turf Liner G17 is a lot different than the carts exported to the states...
