![]() I recently bought a 1998 G16 and have been playing with the governor but nothing seemed to give anything past 18mph. I finally bypassed and connected the throttle cable directly to the carb. Instantly getting 25mph. Just hoping to get some advice on what top speed/rpms I should be watching for. I know I have to watch the revs downhill.

![]() In my G9 I took the governor off and ran it to max speed hundreds of times. It would run 28-31mpg gps depending on surface and tire pressure. What happens is they get up above 4K rpm and valve float. If you run float a lot it can trash the engine, so best to not hit that. So I would hit top speed and let off some it was fine at that, and never went faster down a hill. I ran synthetic in it and eventually many years later the rings wore out and burned oil, so I put a 420 clone in it that is much more fun. This on 22 tires. Given I didn't ride roads all the time either, so full speed was only once in a while and not very far.

![]() I know this is an old thread and have just read the entire thing, Thanks to all for the great info but I have a question......
I just did the zip tie bypass method on a friends 95 G14, very impressive results. It went from 13 to 19mph by gps, I'm his new hero LOL. But was wondering what is the difference between turning the nut all the way in vs the zip tie? Isn't it the same thing but just easier and quicker to zip tie? Thanks again y'all |

![]() The advantage of using a zip tie is that it easy to go back to the factory setting. This is helpful if you want a slower speed to let the kids operate the cart or take it in for warranty service.
