amp draw vs welding amps
Ok guys.. ''Roady''..Please explain.... If I build a lithium battery pack with a 60 amp tig weld machine to connect the cells to each other & now the pack can produce just over 1400 amp draw for 14 seconds.. What will this do to the weld of the lithium battery calls??? I hope I did not loose you on this one.... Will the 60 amp welds hold??/ Are is this a stupid question...

Re: amp draw vs welding amps
GB, are you welding the batteries together or are they bolted connections, or are you building tabs to bolt the batteries together. Need more info. But, if you are building some tab/lug connections to bolt the batteries together then the amps used to weld the tabs together has no affect on the amps that will be traveling through it, the only affect the amps traveling through the tabs will be the thickness of the tabs handling the amps. Too thin = melt down. We see melt down a the Power Plant quite often in Switchgears not making a quick positive connection.

Red 22. The Tabs are close to .060 thick... I'm adding two more 36-volt packs too the packs I have now.. But the original battery pack went thru a controller & the amp draw was set at Max 550 amp. My new controller has no amp restriction on it.. A123 batteries.. Say my total pack can now handle 1400 amps.. That is a very big one time hit on the battery back.. I am just trying track down possible problems and eliminate them.. Thanks guys |

GB, i would double up all of the connections and be sure you wont burn any out.
it would not take much more time to do and a few dollars in straps. and what kind of controller did you get? the zilla |

Zilla controllers are on hold...On the 2009 drag cart. I went with a DC Speed controller. On the 2010 drag cart I went with a NetGain controller.. |

Re: amp draw vs welding amps
GB, what the heck is that??? All those little gas cans, you can use 1 bigger gas can to do the same job LOL.
.060 is not very thick, by the time all that juice makes it around to the discharge point things are going to be HOT, I would change out all the aluminum for copper and at least go with .125, but I don't know what you have there,,a bucket load of batteries that's for sure, kinda look like capacitors? |
