Yeah on the Chinese engines, and other small engine mfg, the tolerances are not that great on the machining etc. The sleeves are made by one company, the block castings another, and the company assembling it is another. Very poor quality control, cost is the main objective with them. Very inconsistent performance and durability. That's why you see some guys getting 30 hp and some only getting 20 hp. (if they even have the engine dyno'd).

I remember back in the late 80's guys with Mustang 5.0's would report running 13 seconds in the quarter mile stock. Others would run 14 seconds. Similar locations, similarly skilled drivers. The reason was the manufacturing. The explanation was that as the tooling would wear the tolerances would get more loose, causing various compression rates etc. The engines were made at a different plant, then dispersed to the assembly plant. They would get all mixed up. So it was a major crap shoot whether or not you'd get a good one or not. I imagine the Chinese mfg to be similar, maybe worse.

You are definitely going to have a nice tight engine when you are done. Keep at it!!

Shepard put the seeds of doubt in my mind on my hone job. So I ordered the Lisle 150000 micrometer cylinder hone used by Paulscarts in his video.I found a brand new one on E bay for $74.99 delivered. It arrived today. It turns out it came from rockauto and it is the complete kit. WOW What a deal!

Still have not received the really good dial bore gauge yet. BUT I installed the NR torque plate @ 30ft/lbs. Really took the time to set up the lesser dial bore gauge. With the torque plate installed I find really ZERO bore variance. I conclude then they manufacture these blocks a torque plate of some description is used. Hats off to whoever manufactures these blocks for Vegascarts.

Here are the pics of the torqued block and lesser dial bore gauge. I did the measuring at both 20&30 ft/lbs

Bumper crop at the post office today. The LONG awaited dial bore gauge showed up along with the 7.0 amp Skil 1/2 " chuck drill to power the lisle hone. Sure going getting a lot of tools for this rebore job. If I ruin this block guess I deserve " I told you so's".

After finding ZERO deviation in my new block. And I do mean .0000 difference any which way I measure the block with the torque plate on I am heading towards building Omega 1 and Omega 2. Omega 1 would now consist all the original Omega ideas with the exception of the piston. I would merely use a new 92mm dished cast piston instead of the 92.25 forged unit. I will then take my present long rod block and overbore it the .010"s and build it.

Talking about killer clones I see Jeremy at Bullfrog sells a 570cc engine based on a 460 block. It is also killer $'s. I guess the customers for it are the street minibike racers where the rule is you can do whatever inside as long as it looks to be 390 honda clone based on the outside. There must be some BIG wagers or egos to justify those engine $'s.
