Default Battery volt meter wiring question 91' CC

I installed a good plan analog volt gauge on my club car (36v) and the gauge is only in the middle of green fully charged. The needle does peg into the charge section when the charger is on, but once the charger turns off the needle is back to the middle of the green.

I wired one side of the gauge to the positive post of battery pack and the other side to the key switch.

I measured the volts on the gauge with key on and only get 32.3V. Measured across battery pack and get 38.1v.

It seems like the gauge is only measuring the volts from 5 batteries not all 6.

Cart runs great and I can't see why through the switch I only have 32.3v.

Do I have the gauge wired right for the key switch and battery and is this normal?

Thanks for any help.

the gauge needs to read the whole pack. It is possible your key switch only has 30v so check the key and trace back the source to find out why it is on 30V?

Thanks, scottyb.

I'm going to be checking that tomorrow. I have a service manual and it shows the Blue wire from the key going to the anti-arch micro switch on the back of the F&R switch which is does. That is the side I have the gauge tied with to make the gauge work.

Something is just not quite right using that source to power the gauge. I have not checked the voltage on the key yet but will later. Not sure what the voltage on the key is supposed to be?? The manual doesn't tell me that.

I guess worst case is that I will run the gauge across the entire battery pack and put a switch in line to turn it off and on when I'm running.

It would sure be nice if I could get the key to do it though.

Not sure if this helps, but I just installed a digital 36V meter on my yamaha G9 but my instructions had me connect the white wire to the key switch (pos) and the black wire to the last negative terminal in the loop.

Finally got it. After looking at the wire going to the batteries from the gauge, I noticed I had it on the second to last positive..

I'm glad that I decided to measure the volts on the gauge or I would have just thought that it was supposed to run in the middle. Been running it like that for 5 months and just got back into working and cleaning up the cart after a rally.

Now when the key is on, even after sitting overnight, the volt meter says "CHARGED"!!

Will leaving the volt meter on cause the batteries to go down?

Sure will. You need to connect it to the key. It works fine.

The new LED charge indicators draw a miniscule amount of juice and will not draw down the pack like the older analogue gauges used to.

Is that the one like what you can pick up on eBay ~$35 to $40?

I have one and thought it was not working right. Now that I have my gauge to the right battery post, I might try and install it back in there. It is a cool gauge and I like the fact that I can see it at night, problem is it is hard to see in bright day light..

Is it like a row of lights? It sounds like the one. Can you give a link to it or a pic of it?
