Default Engine Trouble - 88 two stroke

1988 EZGO 2-stroke pg2 engine. Here's the issue. Everytime I go to take off from a dead stop the cart "cranks" for 5 or 6 cycles then it fires and will take off (a mechanic told that it has to build compression in the cylinder then it will take off). I don't think this is normal, it should fire right up on the first or second crank because when I first jump in the cart (at the beginning of a round of golf) and put the choke on prior to hitting the gas pedal it will fire right up after 2 or 3 cranks. I haven't done a compression test, but the cart runs really strong with plenty of power, it just takes a second or two to get going. To me it sounds like there is a carberator issue or a fuel line crack that is making the fuel line loose its suction. I'm not sure and was wondering if anybody else has experienced this type of thing before, and if so how did you get it fixed. If anyone has any thoughts or ideas on how to get this fixed I would be happy to hear them.

Thanks!

I think your mechanic is right I woud check the compression cold and check
it when its warm. I beleive if it was a fuel problem that it would opposite
of what your thinking the gas would leak out or loose prime and you would
have to keep cranking to get it started and once it started the short stops
wouldnt be enough time to loose prime!!

my old cart did the same thing.
check your gas cap, if theres a air vent tighten it or if its cracked at all get a new one.
just throwin that out there. (worked on mine) i had to choke it about every 4 to 5 times i hit the gas.

good luck , Dew
