Default New Batteries,Ran then stopped....

I have a 2002 Club Car Pathway that I am trying to figure out. 2002 by Vin Number... Yes I know everyone says they didnt make them until 2003... But anyway...It had the wrong batteries in it when I got it. It had six 6 volt batteries. I looked at the motor/controller and charger which all said 48 volts so I thought I figured out the problem. I went to work and grabbed the twin cart we have and brought it home and "borrowed" the batteries out of it to test. When I hooked up the last wire there was an arc of electricity but I hooked it up anyway. Everything is hooked up correctly though. All the lights and everything worked so I took it for a spin around the neighborhood. Seemed to go fine untill the last corner. I took my foot off the gas and started to put it on the brake and it seemed to surge. Then it just died. All the headlights and everything still work.Just no movement forward or reverse. Is there a reset procedure or someplace I should look first? Any idea's? I need to bring the batteries and cart back tomorrow so my time to test is limited. Thanks Randy
