G16 steering gear lube
Can the steering box lube be checked and filled without removing the cover on my '98 G16? If so what kind of lube do I use?

Re: G16 steering gear lube
You can remove the I think, 4 bolts that hold the flat plate on, and put grease in it using a putty knife. Or you can remove the adjuster bolt with jamb nut, and pump it in with a grease gun, through the hole. I did it the second way because I wanted to adjust play anyway. If you adjust it, jack up the car (front tires off ground) then bottom out the adjust bolt lightly, then turn steering wheel lock to lock to feel for binding. Turn adjust bolt in or out till you have the least amount of side to side play, at steering wheel, but no binding lock to lock. Then don't forget to tighten the jamb nut so not to loose the adjustment.
hope I helped Mike |
