ya you have explained your self well maybe my cart is not a g8 i have posted pictures of it and engine comp it definitely has a g 16 body but looks like the older motor i am just not to sure any ways to tell if its for sure a g2 or g8 i guess all of this could be valve float but the way you have explained the rev limiter is very similar to what my cart is doing

With valve springs that are designed to probably run at 25 to 3000 rpm (stock cart on the fairway) and now running them at 4000 rpm, those valves are bouncing off the valve seats and the stock springs are not strong enough to close them tight. So the effect of loosing power is going to be and act the same way and at the same rpm all the time.
On race motors, they change valve springs rather often due to heat and fatigue. Your G8 is about 20 yrs old. Just something else to consider!
G8's have a trailing arm on each side of the swing arm, but thats not to say that you don't have the entire ignition out of a G2. Just keep working at, you'll get it. Check part #'s on the black ignition box on the fire wall below the solenoid. See if you have a G8 box or G2. My G8 ignition box part# is: JF2-82305-00
Good luck Mike
