To avoid confusion the last one is probably the best option. As Stevec3201 pointed out, there is no advantage to having the converter constantly powered. I could email you the first drawing if you really want it but didn't want to confuse people.
I will do a complete write up on another site with instructions and photos.

Hey guys, I am also about to install a reducer/converter and I also wanted one that automatically switched on/off. The one I ordered has a relay built in and has a switch input wire to turn it on. My question is: What is the best source of switched 48V power inside of the battery tray area? If I read the Precedent wiring diagram correctly it appears to be the light blue wire that comes from the key switch and is attached to the soleniod.

Break out your meter and see if the key switch does indeed turn power on/off there. If it does, you should be good to go. I installed a toggle switch and fuse to power mine up. I'm also going to install a relay as well, for added protection. I didn't decide where to mount it yet. Let us know what you did.

I'm waiting on my 36v to 12v 30amp converter to arrive. I also purchased the relay. I have a 2010 PDS with f/r switch and key w/lights. Anyone want to help me out on wiring this correctly?

It would be nice to see some pics of the finished project!
