Default Ezgo 2008

My cart is fully charged (new batteries). Forward/reverse toggle switch on dash is new. The cart is making a noise in the rearend/motor area. When you press the accelerator it makes a "spinning" noise. I pulled the back tires off. On the driver side the "splines" on the axle seems to be stripped. While the passenger side axle has slpines in tact???
Is the driver side the "pulling" side of the cart.

yes, change you hub and clean the spline on the axle, and here is a hub, that you will not have this problem with again, check this out, from Scottyb

Thanks Guys

The Ezgo pinch hub is the last replacement you will buy!

This sounds like the route I want to take. However, if I pull ethe hub off and find that the axle slpine has been damaged, is there a "do it yourself" amswer??

It is very rare for axle splines to go bad. You might just need to get a file and clean up the splines a bit. If it is bad, yes you can do it yourself. Other than the pinch-hub offered above, the same seller offers rear mechanical disk brake kits that will also solve your problem, as well as give you way better braking. Just my 2 pennies.

Either route you go, you will be very satisfied

Also, if you do have a bad axle, before you throw your old hub away, it makes for a very good slide hammer to get those stubborn axles out. You put it on backwards, tighten the nut back down, and give the drum a few whacks with a dead blow

Okay,
Got the hub changed out. Cart is moving again. However it is not at top speed. It seems to be at about 30% speed???. When I put the hubs on I adjusted the drum brakes a little in order for hub to slide on easily. Both the wheels spun fine before letting the cart down off jack. Any suggestions??

Is the pedal sticking? You should be able to push the cart with one hand, while sitting in it on a level surface.

Pedal is fine. The cart seems to roll fine. I hear no "scrubbing" noise in the hub area. One side note. It did set for about 6/8 weeks before she was going again. I did keep the batteries charged however. These are brand new batteries (6 months old).
One other note as you are helping me diagnose (which I REALLY appreciated). I first thought when the cart stopped and the "spinning" nosie started that I had a motor problem. I tried to pull the motor off but found that to be a challenge!!!. Could there be a wire crossed at motor (changed polarity??) that I messed up.
Remember i am new at this (carting) but am somewhat a shade tree mechanic.

Well more than likely your batteries are not even broken in yet??

It was fine before the hub change, but now it's not?
