Default Anyone build a home made long travel suspension?

Looking to see if anyone has tried or made a long travel suspension for their E-Z-GO marathon or Medalist? I have an '84 Marathon and I am seriously considering making my own long travel for the front suspension. Would love to see pics and a write up if you have done it. Also any obstacles or problems I could encounter. I know that I would be looking at quite a bit of fabrication but that doesn't bother me. I enjoy doing that type of work. Speed is not the issue just learning something new and also a "one off design".

I haven't, but this person ( on YouTube ) has built a bunch of them! I think you'd enjoy his videos!

Some have... it looks simple but I looked it over and there are up to 30 bends and welds involved. It can be done.

It can be done fairly easily actually. If you get a mock-up done first, you can buy DOM material(kinda pricey, don't want to practice with it),with the correct I.D. for tapping the threads, then weld them into a triangle, with one of the legs at the intersecting-point extending out,so that you can install a heim into it for your spindle-bolt.Then install heims in the 2-ends at the frame, and then it will be fully adjustable(caster and camber). The complicated part is getting the operating-angles correct,as well as the shock-calibration.Then you have to get the steering correct so that it turns the same both ways, and doesn't have "Bump-Steer"(jerky steering on bumps). If you aren't real experienced with that involved level of design and setup, look for a 4-wheeler and use the front-section.That way most of the work is already done, and you can buy parts easily, since you can go to a dealer. And you will have front-brakes as well!!Hope this helps.

You would have to point out the number of bends & welds.

Has anyone on here used a 4wheeler for suspension? We just bought a yzf 450 to try to add to a club car. Havent torn down the club car yet to start. Does anyone have any suggestions, or contacts I could pick their brain?

I once saw a golf car come in with a lift kit made up of a 4x4 wedged between the axle and front leaf springs, and two BRICKS used to lift the rear.

I have seen some really neat ones over the years, but have never built any crazy ones myself. One of note I really liked was a custom built version of a Ford "twin I-beam" front suspension design on a big lift Yamaha G-1 that worked really well. The "I-beams" were built as such that the locating portion was near the opposite side wheel (very long arms). I still have a pic somewhere on some computer, but not easily found today.
