Default 1997 TXT Freedom - Concern with back tire rod

I am considering buying this but noticed on the rear tire rod that there is a housing towards one side that has a good amount of oil on it.

Does anyone know what that is and why it would have oil on it?

Also, this is a Freedom model and I noticed you can get the Freedom chip and it goes faster. Because it is a Freedom model, does that mean it already has the chip in it?

I appreciate the help!

Welcome to BGW!

I'm not sure what the oil on the tie rod means, but the only carts that have "Freedom Chips" are PDS carts and they were not introduced until the 2000 model year.

The Freedom model TXT carts have factory installed lights.

I've read this twice, & am confused.....where is this "rear" (or "back") tie rod & oily housing that he's referring to?!

I took it to mean the steering box tie rod. By "rear", I assumed he was still talking about the front of the cart, towards the rear??

So I guess the "housing" would be the steering box.....

??? Tie rods don't really have anything like what he described. Tie rod ends have what I call a ball joint (also called tie rod ends). There is a ball joint at the end of the rack. I assumed he meant that???

EZ-GO refers to the tie rod ends as "tie rod ends", "ball joints" and "tie rod ball joints".
