Cheapest way (for now)
Not new to the forum, but I am new to starting a thread. I've been reading here for a couple of years and have just one question for now.
I've finally purchased a used cart: 2004 TXT 36V (f-r switch under the seat) 23" tires 5in lift with good batteries. The dealership took this cart on trade in then I bought it. The dealer mentioned that I could could send the motor to plum quik (they are local to me) for 20% more torque and speed (seemed a little generous to me). Right now it runs 17 mph on level surface. I read here that going to a 48v upgrade is the best overall choice. I am interested what would be the easiest and cheapest way to get the most out of my current setup. I plan to do the 48v (controller, batts, solenoid, etc) upgrade at my next batt exchange which I've already priced with ScottyB. But what about the motor upgrade? wouldn't I get a little more out of my current setup? Or should I just wait and be prepared for the larger expense when its time to do a batt swap? |

Re: Cheapest way (for now)
Maybe.
Best bet would be talk to Plum Quick and tell them you are running 36V now, planning to go to 48V later and that you are running 23" tires. The 23" tires means a 22% Torque loss, so that has to be taken into consideration. |

WHAT JOHNNIE SAID! ^^^^ talk to the guys at Plum Quick, ensure you tell them where you are at now (all the particulars of your current set up), and where you want to be. make sure you let them know you intend to use your cart (on the road, off-road, or a combo), is your area where you use your cart flat, or fairly so, or is it hilly.
I too have a Series TXT, and have upgraded is all. even the motor (just a different one that you are looking at), but I primarily use it on the street or on dirt/grass....but its pretty much all flat. AND I'm still at 36v.....when/if I do the bump to 48v at my next battery pack......I will end up over 30+ mph, considering I am at 27 mph now. oh and btw..... CONGRATS on your ride and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, dad's, wives', husband's, girlfriend's and boyfriend's here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Re: Cheapest way (for now)
CM, if you are close to PQ a Bandit motor upgrade is a good bang for the buck. Around $225 with exchange and if you are close, no shipping. I would still ask but think it would be fine when you went to 48 volt. Be warned though, last time I went there I came out with 2 motors and an order for another one..

Re: Cheapest way (for now)
Lexington huh.. Not too far. Don't get up there much but do have a place near Chappells at lake Greenwood. Fort Mill is about and hour from there. I have a couple of motors I want to upgrade but just haven't had the time and it is summer so don't want the carts down that long. I also may end up selling them before I get a chance so who knows... Need another cart ???

Re: Cheapest way (for now)
Considering you already know there will be additional expense in upgrading the controller, solenoid, F&R, cables, etc. when you upgrade to 48 volt, why wait until you are ready for the batteries? Why not install all the additional components now and break up your major expenses? Everything you buy in prep for the 48 volt setup can be used with the current 36 volt setup. You'll come away with more torque, for now. Maybe a touch more speed and be ready for the big volts when the time comes. Just let PQ know about the upgrades. Not that it will make any major difference. Their motor will just work more efficiently with those pieces anyway.
