Re: Club car primary clutch... engine clutch
Yeah, I don't see any reason I can't get 1 from the store. I just wanted to see if anyone thought it would not be good for me to go that route.

Re: Club car primary clutch... engine clutch
IF... your hardware store has 5-1/2" bolts, I wouldn't see why not!
BUT... the last time I checked for bolts that long, all I could find were 5" or 6" bolts...nothing in 5-1/2" in my area. |

Re: Club car primary clutch... engine clutch
Ok.. Even if they are 6" long, I could always cut off 1/2"

Re: Club car primary clutch... engine clutch
SUCCESS!! Although I got nervous for a second. The new to me clutch would not even start to go on the shaft! The hole was smaller! After a few chosen curse words, I looked and found what looked to be a "shim" in the socket of the clutch. It was split in 4 different spots, 2 almost cut to the bottom and 2 almost cut to the top. I broke out the dremel tool and finished the cut to the top on both sides. Bounced it on the floor, flop, out the pieces came. BIGGER SOCKET!! And it FITS!! The other day I picked up the bolt to hold the clutch on, also bought the die to thread the bolt further. Bought a grade 8 bolt.. The die spun on and threaded very easily. (surprised myself) The 88 carry all clutch had a smaller starting pulley. After thinking about it, I decided I NEED the larger pulley. Of course the bolt holes DON'T LINE UP! So I made a center thing to hold the smaller pulley over top the larger one, and drilled the 3 holes. Put it all together (PITA) and started it. WOOO HOOO I have a new ride The carry all clutch seems to have also taken out MOST of the dreaded out of alignment issue. I'll keep the post going with some of the things I do. Super excited and thank you all for any and all help/guidance you have given me!!
