Another problem after installing new batteries
Yesterday I did a thread on battery break in procedures and got great advice. Now I have a charger problem.
After reading several posts about battery charger problems I think I have a bad capacitor. Diodes check out good forward and reverse. Capacitor test reads nothing on the ohm meter. The problem is Where do I find the proper capacitor for a Powerwise II Lester model number 602718, 36v, 21 amp? The capacitor is probably from around 2003 to 2006 and is so old I can not see any part numbers. The charger is only putting out 2 amps but it has charged the new batteries overnight to 38.45. I also read that charging at such a slow rate will damage the batteries. Thanks in advance. I have been searching for hours and every site wants to sell you a new charger. |

Re: Another problem after installing new batteries
Here it is on the Shop EZGO site: http://www.shopezgo.ca/products/Capa...roduct_id=1556
You probably get a motor run, repeat RUN, capacitor with the same mfd value for less than $20. (Motor run caps are for continuous operation while motor start caps are for intermittent operation.) Check the fuse in the glass window, if one of the two legs is missing, you'll get low amps. Here is how to check the capacitor and transformer. Plus a service manual. |

Re: Another problem after installing new batteries
Thanks JohnnieB, your charts and answers have been very helpful. The capacitor at shopezgo.com cost $125. Not what I expected. With that said and the age of my old charger, I'm buying a new one because down the road I could be replacing more failed parts ....
Thanks again |

Re: Another problem after installing new batteries
JohnnyB said you can get a motor run (not start) cap for around $20. Find the capacitance from the attachments he gave you, and make sure it's rated for 660 (I think) volts.

Re: Another problem after installing new batteries
The old charger might be better than a new one if it only has a bad capacitor. Try replacing it. Capacitor failure is often overlooked when they loose capacitance. That is what I found when my charger did exactly what you describe. New is not always better.

Re: Another problem after installing new batteries
Unless you spend a lot of $$$ and get a DPI. When I upgraded, I had to get a 48 volt anyway, so it was a good excuse, plus I had just bought eight T-105s, so to protect my investment...
