Default 93 Club car

just picked up a 93 club car 36V DS.. This is something I have not yet seen. It has the V glide, but NO resistor coils what so ever? Anyone help me understand if this is normal on some OR had it been modified? there is just a single solenoid. the cart seems to run fine, except ONLY in forward, when the pedal gets to thee floor, the motor stops, but it doesnt do this in reverse? here are a few pics.

36v carts were available with a solid state controller from the factory for about 15 years.
Not as common as the toaster coil carts, but not uncommon either.

From the wire diagram stickie: https://www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=924
