Comet Duster 94C Clutch
I have a 1978 ezgo cart with a Comet Duster Clutch. I took it apart and cleaned everything a few years ago and it ran great. Recently it stopped work and I took it apart and the pucks are not staying in place and it is sticking open, to the point some pucks drop out when I try to remove it. Would getting new pucks change anything or is it time to just replace the entire clutch.
It has the original weights it came with, I think 6 - 7/8 weights and 3 with nothing labeled on them and are very light. The Clutch model is 211572A. |

Re: Comet Duster 94C Clutch
I’m not a fan of the comet clutches to begin with. If you’ve ever seen one come apart you’d understand why. Scary stuff.
I’d replace it with a new clutch. I’m sure dabble or cartaround will correct me if I’m wrong, I’ve never had a cart quite that old, but I would think the Standard ezgo flyweight style clutch should work fine. |

Re: Comet Duster 94C Clutch
I hate hate hate the 94C clutch, I had one come apart and nearly kill me. I'll never work on another.....
It was sticking/binding like yours so I was watching it work with the seat and roof off and up on stands with the garage door open above, when those pucks came flying out at about 3000rpm one barely missed my face and with such force it put a hole in my garage door..... My advice is to throw that bomb as far away as you can, then go pick it up and throw it as far away as you can again lol. Get yourself a 102 or 108 style with the flyweights, I think they work smoother anyway and will last much longer. Just make sure you get one for a 2cycle, they engage at a little higher rpm compared to a 4cycle.. Good Luck |

Re: Comet Duster 94C Clutch
Does the 2 cycle engage at higher rpm because 2 strokes run at 2x the rpm of a 4 stroke

I had a similar experience with a go kart once. Luckily it was a big 2 seater go kart and it had a pretty solid cage between the motor and the seats in front of it so nobody was hurt. I did get to watch one of the pucks probably fly about a thousand feet in the air though, I never did see where it landed. |
