Default Have to show my ignorance

I am in the process of making some upgrades to my medalist. I ordered an Alltrax XCT 500A DCS controller from Carts unlimited. In my haste to get the order in I did not select a solenoid. I went to a local cart place in hopes of getting a solenoid. They sold me a 400A solenoid with a resistor and diode on it. My Alltrax came today and there was a diode included. The instructions say it is a bypass so the Regen will work with the key off. My question is this; there is already a resistor on the large poles of the solenoid, in the same place Alltrax says to install their diode, can these two things be connected like that? I have attached pics of the solenoid as it came to me.

The Alltrax has a built in resistor, so you can remove the one on the solenoid. The diode should be installed on the small posts as shown.

Might want to check with ScottyB. When I had an Alltrax SR48500 and that solenoid my instructions had me wire the diode and resistor just as you have it. Resistors are different for 36 and 48 volts so make sure you are using the correct one.

Follow the installation instructions sent with the controller. As mentioned the resistor will not be used if it is an XCT controller. In which case a 6a Regen diode is supplied and should be installed on the big posts per the included Alltrax instruction.

Thank you all for the clarification. That resistor was throwing me because it was already on there. I just took it off and attached the two diodes as shown in the manual for a DCS cart.

There are no stupid questions on this site....we all are ignorant of these beasts until we tear a couple of them up and learn. Thank goodness there are folks here that are willing to share their mistakes!
