Default My G1 and a couple questions.

Well, I got the cart running great, or should I say "HAD" it running great. I used the GPS too check speed and on flat and level was up over the 20mph point.

I was enjoying it and was even climbing over dirt piles and such. Had a couple visitors and they climbed on and we went for a ride. I made it about half a mile and when coming back to the house it backfired, sounding a bit strange and then got really noisy. It died as I pulled back into my driveway and wouldn't start back up right away.

Finally I got it to start and made it into the garage but it was sounding pretty bad. I jacked up the rear and tried to start it. It fired and ran but I could see the clutch and crank wobbling and the seal is out of it's seat. So not sure if the crank is broke or just a crank bearing problem. In either case, I guess it's time to install the 8HP Industrial Briggs I got for it.

One question though, when you remove the oil pump from a G1 engine should you reinstall the backing plate that sits over the seal? I didn't think about it when I removed the pump but does this backing plate hold the seal and crank bearing in place?

As said, I have the 8HP Briggs I'm going to install now and while I'll have to run without reverse until I can find a 4 stroke rear I'll have to deal with no reverse. But I can handle that for now I think.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for information on what to do to remove the reverse solinoid or disconnect it so I can still use the starter/Gen to start the 8HP while still having it charge as well?

I believe the bearing is held in with a snap ring.
Just pull the blue wire off the reverse solenoid and it won't be able to pull in.

Thanks Marathon. I figure that the bearing is probably toast. I can move the crank up and down by moving the clutch.

So as said, I'm changing the engine instead of messing with this engine anymore.

Thanks for the tip on the solenoid.

I'm planning on dropping and moving the swing arm back a bit while I'm working on the install.

I'll also be sure to start a new thread to post pictures of the change.

Yeah, you probably should have put that plate back on as it helps hold the crank seal in place. Your bearing sounds like it's gone. How much movement are we talking? Just curious.

Well as far as movement, I'm experiencing about 1/4 to 1/2" when I pull up and push down on the clutch.

I pulled the motor out and the seal was pushed out due to the plastic bearing keeper coming out of the bearing. all the ball bearings were at the bottom of the race.

I could repair this motor, but have already pulled the muffler and am beginning the install of the 8hp briggs. I got my taper shaft adapter made for the engine and clutch as well and have the clutch mounted.

Bearings, seals at a minimum. I would consider a new crank. I actually have a whole engine that has been fully rebuilt, new crank, everything. PM me if interested.

Thanks Slo but I've already started the engine change and never was crazy about 2 stroke engines.

I think I'll be much happier being away from mixing gas and also the noise of the two stroke.
