should I upgrade?

I have finally gotten my 1999 TXT (I believe) running and the batteries
(02) won't hold a charge for a long time. I plan on using the cart for cruising and around the hunt club (which can get nasty). I was wondering if I should just replace the batteries (36v) with the Sams batteries or if I should try to upgrade to 48v. I would also like to put a lift and bigger tires, but don't know if the 36v can handle it. Budget is a definite concern, but I don't want to regret only putting 36v in. What would I need to do if I do decide to go 48v? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I am a new to all of this! Thanks!!!

I think you should go 48v, but I don't know if your cart has a controller or resistor coils and if your controller. You should plan on batteries, wiring and controller to make sure all of your bases are covered. Still seems like the cheapest option to get some more torque.

Last time I was at sams, they had both the 6v and the 8v bats.

1999 cart is going to have a 36 volt controller to upgrade you will need batteries which you already know about. $600.00. A 48 volt controller another $400.00 a charger $300.00 and a 48 volt solenoid $70.00. $1370.00 to upgrade. Is it worth the cost you bet ot is when you hit the gas and the thing takes off like a rocket!

Thanks guys! That is what I figured, but I don't want to spend that kind of money right now. Might keep it at 36 volts, upgrade the cables and hope for the best at the hunt club. Would it handle bigger tires all right with 36 volts and 2 or 4 gauge wires. Speed is not a huge issue, but I would like to be able to get around the club which can get muddy. I got the cart and charger for free so I don't mind putting some money into it.

Per Andy, you betcha--Put 48v to that 36v motor and just hang on.

You can keep it @ 36 volts and be happy. But if you want the torque and speed there is no better way than to get it than 48 volts.

So, to do this you would just install 8 Volt batteries instead of 6 Volt?

I understand (I think) the rest of the needed changes.

I am also concerned about our G16E having enough juice after the lift and bigger tires, and the back seat.

You can use 6-8v batteries, or 8-6v batteries. Some 48v systems use 4-12v batteries but we're not gonna go there, are we fellas?

Something to think about for sure. And I can still use the 36 V motor, right?

I am going to need new battries soon anyway, so I may as well get six - 8 Volts instead if six - 6 Volts.
