Default Add one 8 volt to a 36 volt system?

Ok, so while looking for a good used battery to get my cart running I stopped by a small cart repair shop that sells parts. The owner told me he has some decent 6v batteries that will get me by. (yes I plan on six new Trojans in the near future, just not now). He told me that a better option would be adding an 8v instead. Said I'd get better performance over six used 6v.

I can see how I'd getting a little better speed and maybe a little more run time. But is this safe for my carts overall health? I'm worried about motor, controller and stuff like that. Thanks.

Stick with the 6v cells, and find a new shop. Eventually the 2v boost will disappear as your charger is gonna bring the pack up to 36v, and only 36v, because that's what it's designed to do.

Not a good idea to mix batteries like that. Find another shop too.

That was the other part I didn't understand. Figured my charger could only give me a 36v charge. He also mentioned the best 6v he had was reading 6.2 or 6.3. Said his used 8v would be a better choice if I couldn't get new ones right away. Wish I didn't have this huge IRS bill, I'd just go buy me a whole new cart like I had planned. Sucks to be broke, even temporarily.

Doesn't sound like you need a new cart. You just need new batteries, AND another shop for mechanical questions / repairs...

Oh no, my cart is great but I had planned on a gasser for camping trips to the beach. I like how my fnl doesn't have to worry about charging when he's miles from camp. I hadn't planned on batteries yet since I had been keeping up with mine and they were in great shape ( or so I thought). This just comes at a bad time. I can't afford new ones right now and didn't realize how much use we got out of it till now. I just need to get her going till I can buy the new ones.

As for the shop, this is the first dealings I've had with them. I do everything myself from just reading this forum. I was leary of his suggestion and knew I could find the right answer here.
