Default Charging?

I have an '05TXT with new Trojan batteries. When I plugged the charger in it would come on for a few minutes and then turn off. I came to the conclusion that they were TOO discharged for the charger to kick on? What is the minimum voltage needed for the charger to stay on?

Anyway, I put the batteries on a 12v charger per the guidlines I have read elsehwhere on here (this site is the best) and got the charger to stay on and charge the batteries! How long should the charger stay on once I got it to kick on? The voltage was approx. 40% of 100%.

Thanks for everyone's help on this site. It makes enjoying a cart so much better as I would have probably had my cart for sale on Ebay by now if it wasn't for all the help that is provided.

40% is Way Too Low! Continued discharge to this point will do permenent damage to the batteries. Search and read proper break-in procedures. It may take as long as 16 hours to return your batteries to full.

Initial breakin proceedures will determine the strength and useful life of a battery pack....

How long should I be able to drive before the batteries have to be recharged? It seems like I barely drove it over the weekend before they got that low.........from what I've read it gets better? I hope so! Thanks Scottyb, you wisdom is priceless
