90 3pg Backfiring, new guy
Yo,
Just joined the golf cart world with a 1990 2 stroke. It was shutting down after getting hot, so I replaced the ignition system with the HEI set up, which I found on this great site. It ran for all of about 10 minutes, then it started backfiring to the point that it blew up the muffler. Now, I can't get it to start at all, but it is still backfiring badly. I am absolutely stumped. Any help would be great. Thanks, Seth |

Wow! I stand corrected. I still think you have a carb issue that is causing the backfiring. Also I would check the crank seals just to make sure.

Is that the correct muffler for your engine?
If it is not you may have a harder time getting your cart tuned right |

The cart had a new carb on it when I got it. Do you think it was just never tuned right? Which way does the boass crew need to go to lean it out? In or out? |

Re: 90 3pg Backfiring, new guy
This is probably unrelated to your problem but I noticed your metal shroud (for lack of knowing what to call it) isn't over the head of your engine. I'm assuming it isn't around the head either. You should have that on so the fan will direct the air it produces around and over top of the head. If it's not there I'm pretty sure it'll run hot and that's not a good thing.
Like I said, just an observation. |

To load the muffler like that means you lost spark for a while, and then came back.
Sometimes you have to switch the red, and blue wires from the pulsar to see which way runs best. |
