Re: 89 ezgo runs but wont accelerate
Good compression. Would think other than the muffler maybe not timed correctly

Re: 89 ezgo runs but wont accelerate
With good compression, and spark, I would suspect crankshaft seals first, and then fuel pump.
If somebody had rebuilt it, I would suspect that the piston was in backwards, but you said it was running fine. Timing is forgiving on these. If it wouldn't start in forward, it would run great in reverse. |

Re: 89 ezgo runs but wont accelerate
Yeah if it's not firing of the starting fluid you sprayed in its most likely the crank seals

Re: 89 ezgo runs but wont accelerate
No thoughts on muffler maybe being clogged?

Re: 89 ezgo runs but wont accelerate
Easy enough to check. Disconnect pipe at exhaust port, or muffler. See what it looks like, and then see if it runs while disconnected. I don't think that there are nearly as many clogged mufflers as people would like to believe. |

Re: 89 ezgo runs but wont accelerate
I pulled muffler and looked through exhaust port. The piston had a window cut out in it pretty sure it's installed 180 out.

Re: 89 ezgo runs but wont accelerate
Yeah the 2pg should have one window facing the intake....although there is a piston with 2 ports available I think that's for the 3pg....someone may know more about this

Re: 89 ezgo runs but wont accelerate
There you go. Port side always faces the intake.
Your piston is in backwards. While fixing it, make sure the rings are bevel side up too. |
