Default Starting solenoid (I think!)

Id like to start by saying the cart is a 2004 EZGO TXT running basket case I bought to restore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a condition where the cart won't start. We were riding the cart around the neighborhood, once we got home the cart was parked for about 5 minutes. Went to get in the cart and it wouldn't start.

There is a click in what I assume is the starting solenoid when the key is on and the pedal is engaged. (Trombetta 892-1221-210-30)is the current solenoid. I went to the local cart house (before pulling the old solenoid) to buy a new solenoid. The part they sold me was a (White-Rodgers 70-111224-5A) solenoid. The reason I think it's a solenoid issue is because with the key on and the pedal engaged I'm only seeing 9 volts across the current solenoid.

Is this an acceptable replacement part? And if this doesn't work, what should be my next course of action?

What is your Battery voltage at?
You can jump out the solenoid to verify it.

9 volts is not even close to being acceptable. 12.7 volts is fully charged. 11.8 v is pretty much dead.

Put your meter on the battery terminals. Check the static charge. You are looking for 12.7 volts.

Then step on the pedal, and check the voltage. If it drops to 9.6 volts, that is considered a failed load test. The battery is then junk.

12.7v then when I stepped on the pedal it dropped very little. I ended up swapping in the new solenoid and she runs! Thanks for the reply!

Battery voltage was at 12.7....that was my initial thought was a bum battery, but she's good. Swapped the new solenoid in and she's alive!

Back to this basket case! I have the following condition:

Turn key, press pedal, and the spark plug only sparks one time.

I've changed the ignition coil, I've also change the little black box next to the battery and solenoid. I also changed all the electrical connections. Any other ideas? I did check the voltage coming from the pulsar under the shroud...I apologize if my terminology is incorrect, please enlighten me!

Thanks for any help that anyone can offer.

I think I have this same issue.

click click click ....
my battery is a tad weak, but even with a jump box it does it.

Can I jump terminals to see if it will start? like an old car...
which terminals??

any updates on your progress?

I checked my coil by checking the ohms , checked primary small wires ,slight high resistance at 5.3 ohms
I checked the secondary and get nothing, no reading , gonna try a coil
but looking I thought coil came with coil wire but cant find it.

i get intermittent spark and hooked up my timing light and it wont flash the light

For what it is worth, Napa and Oreilly Auto Parts stocks the solenoid under the following part numbers:

Oreilly 2SS7

Napa ECH ST80

Those will start the cart a few times, but burn out quickly. The solenoids on these carts need to be "continuous duty" type. An automotive starter solenoid engages for 10 or 15 seconds to turn the engine over, but disengages once the engine is running. On these gas golf carts the solenoid stays engaged the entire time the cart is running to support the charging function of the starter generator.
