Default Couple questions around making cables

Good/bad/good/bad news. I'm installing a new controller thanks to scottyb :) ! The 4ga wiring I was going to make due with until my account replenishes turned out to only be about half with the other half 6ga :( . New 2ga :) ! No budget :(
So might be making my own with the help of a friend. 2 questions.
How much longer should the battery cables be for 48v vs 36? I'm currently running 36 but plan to go to 48 when I need new batteries so want to plan ahead
Secondly, friend has 3/8 tinned copper lugs already, are those ok to use or should I only be using 5/16?

i made my own lugs(copper tube)
cable(2g,600 strand count welding cable)
hammered and soldered ends to cable-then put high quality shrink wrap on ends.

dont know about the tinned lugs-someone will have a better opinion than me...

job turned out ok-but my buddy bought a cable set from scottyb and i will not waste my time making my own again-the time it took to do my own high quality set-i could have made enough $$ to buy scottyb`s cables set and an hd f/r switch, and had a better set of cables....

Maybe the attached drawings will help you estimate the lengths needed.
First one is a 6 X 6V pack and the second is a 6 X 8V pack.

The 3/8 lugs only have 0.135 Sq/In less contact area than the 5/16, so they will probably be okay, but use the 5/16 if possible.

Thanks for the help to both of you. I would love to get a set of scotty's cables. He has been great to deal with and I'm very happy with him, just don't think I can squeeze the budget anymore.

The 8V batteries have the lugs on the same side where as the 6V batteries have the lugs on opposite sides. That is why there is a length difference. Try to find a 48V cart and measure the cables or you will have to guess ad the additional lengths needed.
