Default Anyone cut the steering shaft down?

I was thinking about cutting the steering shaft to lower the steering wheel a little and get some more chest/arm room (I guess that's what to call it). When I drive my cart I feel like an old lady with her seat all the way up against the steering wheel and my arms are bent at least 90 degrees at the elbow. I'd like to stretch out a little more, or at least I think it would be more comfortable.

Anyone ever do this before? If so, how much have people shortened them up by and did they like the results? Is it a matter of just cutting out a section and welding it back together, or is there a better method?

I was thinking about doing the same thing. I have never cut one down. But I have had my ezgo shaft out of the column and can say on an ezgo it would be no problem.

Take it apart and cut inner shaft and weld then take the same amount off the top of the column.

Seems like this has be done before on this site, I think they cut out a section and used a sleeve to connect it back together. Try a search and see what comes up.

It shouldn't be a problem. If I can get enough people interested, I'll start making them and selling them.

I did and the only thing I could find was someone who did it to a TXT, and they didn't go into any details, so I figured I'd ask the CC guys. I'll keep hunting around and see what I can find. Not going to be an immediate mod, I should probably wait a couple months before I break out the band saw and welder on a brand new cart. I'll update this post if I find any good info, or just decide to take the plunge and do it. I'm more looking for feedback from people who have done it and if they like it or not. Basically, is it worth the trouble....

I've shimmed the steering column before on a Precedent and it helps quite a bit. If you pull the dash off you'll see the four bolts that hold the steering column down to the frame. Take the two bolts out that are closest to you and put a few washers between the column and the frame to raise that side of it up. It'll move the wheel up an inch or so and give you more room.

I shortened my DS shaft 4 in and I love it.

Isn't a Stealth steering column a few inches shorter than the standard CC one? Can someone confirm or deny this?

Not sure. If I ever see one again I'll measure it. But the DS isn't the issue. We can get limo columns for 6 pass and 8 pass DS based cars with shorter steering columns than a stock DS. The Precedent is only available in one length.

Ok, so the DS and Precedent columns aren't swappable?
