There! One less thing to worry about.

Now if my parts would show up I would be able to see if the work so far helped. I even painted my filter housing tins for good luck.

A little worried about priming the fuel system as I read something about that being an issue.

Hey Cart Around,

the 86 marathon doesn't have valves? I may be setting myself up to look stupid here, but I assumed that all gas burners had valves. Please forgive my ignorance on this issue

2 cycle engines in carts don't have valves like 4 cycle engines. They use port timing instead.

Update: Received new carb and plug in the mail today. Plug is same but this carb is smaller overall than the one I removed. The choke mount was different, so had to improvise cable routing.
Primed lines with fuel using a small funnel and gave open carb a shot of starting fluid and it jumped to life.
Got it down off the jack and pulled it outside running for a quick test drive. It actually runs better with good low RPM response but not quite as much raw power.
New air filter did not arrive, so will wait to install filter unit which is where this whole thing started. Temps are very cool in Mich tonight, so maybe that is helping too.
Either way, I am running and that is a good result. I really appreciate all the advice and your experience along the way. Also hope this thread might help others .
I will post a final outcome and a picture when finished.
