Higher quality 0-5k Pot? (PMC98191 CM44675)
Finished all the suspension on my 92 Marathon, and am doing electronics now.
Did a sweep of the pot using my Fluke meter, and it it's not a smooth transition. The readings bounce at various positions, but don't actually drop out, like a bad trace. Anyone have a part number for Mouser, Arrow, or any other electronics site to a higher quality, sealed, 0-5k pot that will drop in with same shaft dimensions? |

There was an extended post about someone who did this a while back. Try using Search, Advanced Search. Maybe you'll find it. I'm not sure, but if I recall, the POT doesn't rotate as many degrees as a standard POT. I have an ITS.

Have you tried spraying contact cleaner inside it?

I did do an advance search, using several different terms, but got so many results that didn't point to a part, that I gave up after 45 min's.
I started to remove it, and realized it was sealed with glue. I was going to use some Caig Fader enhancer, which works really well, but couldn't access the insides without destroying part of the case. |

Do an Advanced Search for "potentiometer," in "Electric EZGO". I found this:
http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...lerator-2.html on page 5/14. YIKES! $45 for what looks like a standard wire wound pot? It doesn't appear to be sealed. I just checked my resistor box, and I have identical wire wound pots, but they are only 500 ohms, not 5k. I've never seen a pot box. Can you tell if the rotation is the same number of degrees as a standard pot (around 270°)? I'm pretty sure someone replaced theirs with a Mouser, Ack, Fry's, etc. |

It's somewhere around 90 deg.

Re: Higher quality 0-5k Pot? (PMC98191 CM44675)
I found the datasheet for the original pot (PMC98191) which was made by Clarostat. It's a 312 deg rotation, but the full sweep is not used. Not sure why (maybe for reliability) but the original is rated at 2 watts.
After matching up shaft length/diameter, case dimensions, etc, Clarostat (now made by Honeywell) has an updated part (RV4NAYSD502A). Paid $13 for one, and will update after install. |

Quote:
The Honeywell part you listed is a 0-5KΩ linear taper pot (data sheet attached) and with 90° used, the resistance range will only be about 1.5KΩ, which is only about 30% throttle, so I wonder if that is the right part. I might be wrong, so let us know if the top speed is the same as it was with the noisy pot. |

Since you're gonna have to remove the old one to replace it, why not try some contact cleaner? Carbon pots will wear out, but I've never had a wire wound pot crap out, though they rarely see the extremes of hot, cold, wet, dry, dust, etc. that your 26 year old pot has seen.
