Why do some have 2 wires and others 3 wires?

Re: 48 volt digital battery meters
Analog meters just need the voltage. The LED/Digital ones need the power source to light up, so the extra terminal is for key on signal.

Re: 48 volt digital battery meters
2 wire dvm's use whatever power they are reading as its power source.
3 wire dvm's use a seperate power source. For example, you can monitor a 12v battery using 48v power source. |

Re: 48 volt digital battery meters
Specifically about 2 and 3 wire digital voltmeters, the 3 wire models require a lower + power supply voltage to operate the internal electronics (they can read a higher voltage than the supply using the additional + wire).
The 2 wire models are more convenient as they can measure and be powered by the same voltage levels. |

Re: 48 volt digital battery meters
Thanks, Guys!
My friend has a 2 wire 48 volt digital volt meter he's giving me next week. Here's hoping it goes to 50.9....lol. I gather it can be run through the ignition so its not lit up all the time. |

Red wire to keyed side of switch.
Black wire to battery pack - or b- on controller. |

Re: 48 volt digital battery meters
What side would be the "keyed" side? I have a green wire and a blue wire
