Default Battery Compartment Storage

Have a strange question.
I have a 2001 TXT, 36 volt with 6 batteries. There is a good size space on the right hand side (directly under the drivers seat) in the battery compartment that is "wasted" and could provide a fair amount of extra storage.
Has anyone tapped into that area and if so what did you do? I am considering just installing a small cooler in that space.
My big concern are the battery fumes.
This cart is only used for golf.
Thanks in advance.

Well, since I assume you will continue to be a good caretaker of your batteries and cables (by this I mean cleaning with baking soda/water mix, checking cables , checking fluids). You may want to fashion some sort of divider to keep any cleaning fluids away from the storage area.

I have an extra battery and a small charger from H.F. for that battery in that area.
