I meant did you paint the inside of the brake back plate? Yours appears different than mine, and it's been years since I worked on mine, but if you painted the inside of the back plate, won't that cause some excess friction where the shoes and other parts "rub"?

I sanded them down to bare metal then painted them with gloss black. And with the anti squeak lubricant applied to all points where the shoes touch the back plate they operate very very smooth 😊
