Default G22 misfire, running rough

Had this machine a couple years now. It started having this issue last season, but we weren't using it much and I never got to the point of troubleshooting it. So here goes. Cart normally runs fine for a bit when I first start using it, then it will start missing, with an occasional backfire. Sometimes letting off the throttle and hitting it again will get it to smooth out. Or just running at slower speeds will sometimes do it. So I'm wondering if the coil is getting hot and cutting out or what else it might be. Sorry if this is one of those "covered a million times" topics, I'm search challenged and nothing came up.
