Generally, if you hold them up to the light and look at them from the inside, you shouldnt see light shining through. If you do, they're leaking.
Think of the reeds as a valve in a 4 stroke engine. They're designed to let air in, but not back out. Holding a mega bright light under them isnt really a fair test, just hold them up to the sky and look :) I believe someone on here found a source for replacement reed petals. But if your cage is cracked your up s*** creek until one pops up on Ebay, and they usually go for $100+ pretty fast because theres no other alternative. |
