G1 secondary spring
Hey guys.
I took apart my secondary clutch to clean and inspect and noticed that the spring has no points to locate in the provided holes. Its flat on both ends like a standard primary spring. Did someone put a primary spring by mistake or is this the proper spring? Also I have never driven the cart. Thanks in advance |

Re: G1 secondary spring
That may not be the correct helix. It might be from a G2/G9. Can you post a pic? If it's not the correct helix and inner sheave it will not have ramp buttons on both sides of the helix. The G1 needs buttons on both sides because it will turn in both directions.

Re: G1 secondary spring
Not quite. All 4-strokes have 3 sliders on the spring seat side only. All 2-strokes should have 3 sliders on the spring seat, and 3 sliders on the moving sheave (that face the opposite direction) .

Re: G1 secondary spring
We are talking about a G1 here right? Looks like 6 ramp buttons to me. One set for forward, one set for reverse.

Re: G1 secondary spring
Your parts look correct for the G1. The gold spring is the best one to use for a stock cart. If you want more low end torque, go with Plowman's red spring. Early G1 clutches had a steel fixed/outer sheave. The early/original ones also did not have any holes for preload springs. The preload springs come in the 4 stroke carts. You could use a G2/G9 spring and set in on the 2nd or 3rd hole, that would give you a little more low end torque, but not much. The more modern replacement clutches will fit a G1-G16, they come will all the holes predrilled for the button ramps.
